Game Jam: Depths

We built Dig Deeper for Ludum Dare — the legendary game jam that started it all. As the very first online game jam ever created, Ludum Dare has paved the way for every other game jam you know, from GMTK to the 20 Seconds Game Jam. Working around the theme "Depth", we crafted our high-stakes artifact-sorting adventure, which ultimately placed 253rd overall among global submissions. We are particularly proud of our 118th-place ranking in Innovation, which placed us in the top 8% worldwide for innovation — a testament to our fresh take on the classic verification gameplay loop.

Original Concept Sketches
There were many dynasties in China, each with a variety of artifacts during its reign. When it comes to archaeology, archaeologists can dig up different things in the ground at different depths. That's what inspired us to develop this game.

2D Art

3D Art
For the 3D part, we have both downloaded assets and self-made assets in the game.
We downloaded a package of traditional Chinese artifacts, and added some custom assets using 3D modeling software, Blender.

Programming
(Book code part)
Two implementation approaches are available: replacing the Sprite Renderer component, or toggling the active state of page buttons.
